San Diego Padres Start 2018 Season

Nadia Larysa spends her free time going to plays and musicals and cooking for her friends and family. Also a fan of Major League Baseball (MLB), Nadia Larysa enjoys watching her favorite team, the San Diego Padres, play.

Like several other MLB teams, the San Diego Padres started the 2018 season by extending the protective, lightweight, mesh netting that runs along the foul lines at their home field. This will assure Padres fans who visit Petco Park for a game that they won’t be injured by hard-hit foul balls flying into the stands.

The netting is attached to both dugouts down the first and third baselines. Netting has also been installed on the top of walls along the warning track in the outfield. In line with MLB recommendations, the Padres used state-of-the-art green netting to ensure that fans in the protected areas will have unobstructed views of the game.

Major League Baseball issued recommendations for lengthened protective netting at ballparks in 2015, and several teams quickly complied. The push for the expansion increased in 2017 after several incidents involving spectator injuries. Along with the Padres, the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, and Milwaukee Brewers were among the clubs that expanded their netting in 2018.
